TOPEKA (KSNT) – Topeka police and emergency responders are on the scene of a vehicle crash that ended after a chase.
Scanner traffic indicates a person fleeing police crashed at 29th and Southeast Indiana just before 6:30 a.m. Initial information indicates the driver was injured and unconscious after the crash.
Topeka Police say the incident began shortly after 6 a.m. when officers were called to an apartment complex near SW 34th and Fairlawn about an aggravated domestic battery case. The victim told police the suspect left in a pickup truck. Police spotted the truck as it entered I-470 from Fairlawn Road.
Police tailed the vehicle but the suspect would not pull over. Police continued to follow the suspect through south and southeast Topeka. The person ran through at least one red light during the chase. At SE 37th and Indiana, the suspect headed north. Police discontinued their pursuit at about 34th and Indiana.
The suspect hit another vehicle at the intersection of 29th and S.E. Indiana before ending up in the front yard of a home. A woman driving the car that was hit was not injured.
Police say Ernesto G. Soto was the person leading police on the chase and he was taken to a hospital for minor injuries shortly after the accident.
