Kansas man killed trying to save dogs in house fire

ROBINSON (KSNT)- A 68-year-old man was killed while trying to save his dogs in a house fire.

The fire broke out Friday night in the small town of Robinson just outside of Hiwatha. By the time fire crews responded to the home on 230th road, it was engulfed in flames.

Garry Guy and his son were home at the time. Guy’s son was able to escape unharmed, buy Guy went back in to the home to rescue his six dogs. “He yelled at my brother to help him put the fire out, cause I guess he thought he could save the day by putting out the fire,” Krys Guys said. “And I guess when he realized he couldn’t do that the first thing that comes to his mind is basically his kids, his babies, which is, you know, Colton was one, of course he made it out, and the others was his animals, they were his babies.”

Only one dog was rescued in the fire. The Brown County Sheriff’s office said the cause of the fire is still under investigation, the family said they believe it was due to an electrical issue.
