LAWRENCE (KSNT) – Authorities say an individual involved in a November homicide in Lawrence has been arrested in Mississippi.
Lawrence Police Detectives, along with agents from the United States Marshalls Service, arrested the individual Thursday morning.
On November 9, 2014 Lawrence Police discovered 19-year-old Justina Altamirano Mosso deceased in an apartment at 1727 West 24th Street. Based on observations at the scene, Lawrence Police initiated a homicide investigation and remained on the scene for days processing evidence and conducting interviews. A suspect was developed and leads were followed.
Lawrence Police says that last week information from the investigation was submitted to the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office, resulting in the issuance of a First Degree Murder warrant.
Detectives from the Lawrence Police Department traveled to Greenville, Mississippi on Monday after developing leads indicating the suspect was possibly in that area. Thursday morning, Rontarus Washington Jr, formally of Lawrence, was taken into custody for first degree murder and aggravated burglary. He was arrested without incident.
Details of his extradition to Kansas are not yet available.
