Baby found on fire on New Jersey roadway

PEMBERTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say a baby was found on fire in the middle of a southern New Jersey road but investigators have not released details about exactly what happened.

Police were called to the scene in Pemberton Township, about 30 miles east of Philadelphia, around 11 p.m. Friday. Officers found the child on fire and quickly doused the flames, but the child suffered severe burns.

A spokeswoman at the hospital where the child was reportedly taken said Saturday she could not release patient information without the patient’s name and age.

Phone messages left with police by The Associated Press were not immediately returned. But Burlington County prosecutors said more details would be disclosed later Saturday.
