Indianapolis football players put deflated footballs to the test

(WTHR) What kind of difference would a deflated ball make to those who throw and catch footballs for a living?

It’s a question many are asking in regard to “deflategate” story alleging the New England Patriots used under-inflated footballs in the AFC Championship Game.

University of Indianapolis football players helped conduct a test on Wednesday, playing with a mix of balls that were properly inflated and others that were a few pounds lighter.

“Quarterbacks and wide receivers both, as soon as we catch the ball,” explained quarterback Conner Barthel, “we like to grip it as hard as we can to make sure we have it and so as soon as you grab that ball if it goes in a little bit more than the last one, you can tell an immediate difference.”
