WICHITA, Kan. (KSNT/AP) — A 60-year-old woman is dead after being struck by a vehicle in the parking lot of a Wichita supermarket.
The Wichita Eagle reports the woman was struck just after 8:15 a.m. Thursday and taken to a local hospital with numerous injuries.
Rachel Whitten, spokeswoman for House Speaker Ray Merrick tells KSNT News the victim has been identified as Annette Hedke, the wife of three-term Representative Dennis Hedke from Wichita. According to a member of the House of Representatives, the Speaker of the House mentioned the accident when the House gaveled into session late Thursday morning and that the House chaplain mentioned the loss in her prayers.
Police say Annette Hedke fell near her car and an SUV next to her pulled out and hit her. A police spokesman says the woman was dragged 15 feet and pinned beneath the SUV, whose driver did not see the her because she had fallen.
