GEARY COUNTY (KSNT) – Officers with the Junction City Police Department responded to a report of a carjacking early Monday morning.
Officers were dispatched at about 2:28 a.m. to the intersection of 8th and Jefferson. Upon arrival officers found a female victim that had been beaten and her car stolen, officers in Grandview Plaza located the vehicle and attempted to stop it beginning a car chase.
Geary County Sheriff’s deputies took over the chase and followed the car east bound on Interstate 70. Wabaunsee County deputies then joined the chase using “stop sticks” flattening two tires. The chase continued into Shawnee County where the vehicle was spiked again flattening a third tire.
Just after 4 a.m. the stolen vehicle was stopped on near I-70 and West Union Road in western Shawnee County. Two 17-year-old juvenile suspects were taken into custody without incident. It was later determined the two juveniles had escaped from a juvenile group home facility in Junction City called New Directions. They were transported back to Junction City and booked into the North Central Kansas Regional Juvenile Detention Facility and charged with aggravated escape from custody, reckless driving, no drivers license, aggravated battery, speeding, possession of stolen property, aggravated robbery, failure to maintain a single lane, aggravated fleeing and eluding, no turn signal, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and failure to stop at a stop sign.
