TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Topeka Fire Department responded to a reported house fire at 2208 SE Davies Street in Topeka shortly after 1 o’clock Monday morning.
When crews arrived, they found heavy fire and smoke coming from the rear of the residence. The first arriving fire crew was able to make an attack on the fire and it was quickly extinguished. A primary and secondary search of the residence found no one to be at home at the time of the fire.
A preliminary investigation indicates the home was burglarized prior to the fire and the cause is listed as intentionally set. Investigators believe the two crimes are connected. The homeowners were not home at the time of the fire, however they returned during firefighting operations.
One firefighter received minor burns and was treated at the scene by crews from American Medical Response. Estimated dollar loss for this fire is forty thousand dollars. Volunteers from the Kansas Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross responded to the scene to provide emergency assistance to two adults and three children.
