KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Washburn senior guard Kyle Wiggins has been named the MIAA Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week after averaging 22.5 points and 5.0 rebounds a game in a pair of Ichabod wins over Central Oklahoma and Northeatern State.
Wiggins helped lead the Ichabods to a 2-0 week as he averaged 22.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. For the week he was 14 of 23 from the field for a 61 percent average and hit 8 of 14 3-point attempts for a 57 percent clip while connecting on 9 of 10 free throws. Against Northeastern State, he was 9 of 11 from the field including 5 of 7 from 3-point range hitting all three free throw attempts en route to a game-high 26 points. He scored 19 in the first half going 7 of 8 from the field and 4 of 5 from 3-point range. Against Central Oklahoma he scored 19 points hitting 5 of 12 shots and 3 of 7 from 3-point range adding five rebounds in the Ichabod win. The 6-3 senior guard is a native of Leavenworth, Kan. where he competed at Leavenworth High School.
