TOPEKA (KSNT) – A man who was shot during a struggle with Topeka police is now in jail.
Thirty-five year old Brooke Aaron McLaughlin was released from the hospital Wednesday afternoon and booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections. He was booked for aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon and aggravated battery.
McLaughlin appeared in court Wednesday as well. His bond was set at $100,000 and his next appearance is for criminal assignment docket on February 26, 2015 at 3 p.m.
The shooting stemmed from an incident last Wednesday in southeast Topeka. Police responded to a call of a suspicious car around 10:30 a-m. An officer found a black Impala with two people inside. After running the license plate, the officer learned it was stolen. The officer approached and McLaughlin grabbed for the officer’s gun. McLaughlin was shot during the struggle.
The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is the agency investigating the shooting.
