(KGET) Bodybuilders and other athletes turning to breast milk to gain strength.
“It seemed kind of crazy to me. I know when I heard it my jaw kind of dropped like what is going on there,” says Max Sevedra.
Sevedra is the head coach at CrossFit Bako in Bakersfield, California.
He just recently heard of body builders and other athletes drinking breast milk in hopes of enhancing their physique.
“Being in the fitness industry you hear a lot of different trends,” he says.
“The reasons they are saying they are using that it is the perfect combination of fats proteins and sugar,” explains personal trainer Tim Terrio. “And it’s true it is the perfect combination for a baby.”
Terrio, owner of Terrio Therapy Fitness, says there is absolutely no proven research showing breast milk benefits adults.
“It’s all anecdotal, people saying they feel better, saying they feel more energy, there is no research that it works,” Terrio points out. “The scary side is that it is a body fluid, so it can carry disease. So any disease a mother has, Hepatitis, HIV, AIDS, any of these systemic diseases will be in the milk. And also any drugs they take will be in the milk. So really it’s just a gigantic game of Russian roulette.”
