Shawnee County jail inmate recaptured after escape

TOPEKA (KSNT) – Topeka police confirmed to KSNT News that a man who briefly escaped from the Shawnee County Detention Center was re-captured after a 20-minute search.

The escape was reported about 5:25 Wednesday evening when inmate Joseph R. Hill fled from the corrections annex while taking out the garbage. He was captured about 20-minutes later by a Topeka Police Officer and a Sheriff’s deputy on I-70 over SE Washington Street.

Hill was taken into custody without incident, and then returned to the corrections center.

Now, in addition to his previous charges he faces being charged with Aggravated Escape from Custody.
