Crews battle out of control grass fire in Jackson County

SOLIDER (KSNT) – Fire crews in Jackson County responded to an out of control grass fire early Wednesday afternoon that destroyed and damaged multiple structures.

Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse tells KSNT News taht around 1 p.m. Jackson County Firefighters responded to 2385 198th Road in rural Solider. The out of control grass fire destroyed a vacant 100 year plus home as well as destroyed a small shed and damaging another shed as well as the occupied residence on the property.

Sheriff Tim Morse says Soldier Fire Dept. (Jackson Co.), Holton, Circleville and Potawatomi Tribal Fire Departments responded to the scene where the property owner had been burning grass.

The fire was brought under control around 1:45 p.m. near the homestead but just after 2:00 p.m. firefighters were still battling a grass fire that continued in the pastures south and west of the address.

Sheriff Tim Morse says no injuries have been reported at this time.
