HAYS (KSNT) – Emporia State women’s basketball punched a ticket to its sixth Elite Eight appearance since 1997, which is the most by any Division II program. The Lady Hornets defeated top-seed and MIAA regular season champion Fort Hays State 66-61.
ESU was led by sophomore point guard Kelly Moten who tallied a team-high 20 points. Emporia State led by two at halftime and extended the advantage to double digits in the second half.
MIAA Player of the Year Kate Lehman scored a game-high 27 points for Fort Hays State.
The Lady Hornets now advance to face West Texas A&M in the Elite Eight on Tuesday, March 24 in Sioux Falls, S.D.
