Texas Senator Ted Cruz announces presidential candidacy

LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) – He was only elected to the Senate in 2012 and now Texas Republican Ted Cruz has his sights set on the White House.

Cruz wasted no time this morning announcing his presidential candidacy on Twitter just after midnight.

The official launch is later today at Liberty University, the college founded by the late Rev. Jerry Falwell, indicating Cruz plans an aggressive courtship of cultural conservatives and young voters.
