LAWRENCE (KSNT) – The Kansas softball team saw its 10-game winning streak snapped on Friday night at Arrocha Ballpark in Lawrence. The Jayhawks, ranked 22nd in the nation, entered with a (29-2) overall record prior to their series-opener with the Texas Longhorns.
Texas jumped on the board quickly in the first inning with a three-run home run from catcher Erin Shireman. The Longhorns would add another run on an RBI single and lead 4-0 after one inning.
Kansas was unable to manufacture a run against Longhorns pitcher Erica Wright. The freshman threw a complete game shutout. She also struck out nine Jayhawks while giving up just three hits.
Texas wins game one of the series 6-0. Kansas falls to (29-3, 0-1 Big 12).
Game two is Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The series finale will be Sunday at noon.
