SALINA (KSNT) – Salina police say they’ve located the man they suspect stabbed another man today last March sitting in the Shawnee County Detention Center.

Police say they were initially called on March 24th to a stabbing in the 1400 block of Arapahoe. When they arrived they found 50-year old Scott Johnson lying in a yard after having been stabbed several times in both the front and back of his body. Johnson was taken to Salina Regional Health Center where he was pronounced dead.

While investigating the stabbing, they identified 26 year old Ivan Huizar-Alvarez as their prime suspect.

They learned Monday that Alvarez was arrested by Topeka Police on an unrelated crime, and that he was in custody in the Shawnee County Detention Center.

Thursday, April 9th, detectives got an arrest warrant, charging Alvarez with Murder in the First Degree and are waiting to extradite him back to Salina.

The investigation as to whether any others were involved in the stabbing is still underway, no word at this time if there could be additional arrests.
