EMPORIA, Kan. – All three Emporia State quarterbacks tossed touchdown passes during the Hornets Spring Game on Saturday. The Hornets played two quarters of running clock action and three special situations in front of nearly 500 fans at a rain soaked Welch Stadium.
The Hornet defense held on the first drive before the offense drove for a 25 yard field goal from Austin Morton. The first touchdown of the scrimmage came on a Deonte Robinson four yard touchdown. Morton later converted a 38 yard field goal and Braxton Marstall found Brent Davenport for a 17 yard touchdown.
The first of three special situations had the offense trailing by seven with 1:35 left on the defensive 35 yard line. Ty Reasnor connected with Justin Brown for a 21 yard touchdown to get force a tie.
The defense held on the second special situation that saw the offense down two points with 1:45 remaining on their own 40 yard line.
In the final special situation the offense was down by three with 35 seconds left on the defensive 20 yard line. On the first play Brent Wilson connected with Lance Nault for a touchdwon to end the scrimmage.
Emporia State will open the 2015 season at Missouri Southern on Sept. 3 in Joplin, Mo. The home opener is set for Sept. 10 against Central Missouri.
