The Kylie Jenner challenge leaving teens with bruised and bloody pouts

KANSAS (KSNT) — If you’re the parent of a teenaged daughter you might have heard about the new trend that is causing a lot of shock on social media.

The idea is for teens to look like a reality television star, Kylie Jenner. It’s called the “Kylie Jenner challenge”, and it’s the hot thing among many young girls.

Find a glass jar. Insert your lips and suck.

This is the latest craze that has teenage girls plumping up their lips, just to look like the famous pouty face star.

“Because they are the most famous people and most of the guys want,” said Samantha Munoz, a high school student. “So they want to look like them to impress others.”

“At first I was like that “oh this would be fun and now when I see it on the news, I’m j like no I’m not going to do that’,” said Jasmine Wheeler, a high school student.

And doctors say, perhaps with good reason, the web also shows pictures of cracked lips and bleeding.

“Chronic tissue damage with hemorrhage can lead to pigmentation and chronic stretching of the skin breaks the elastic fibers which causes you to wrinkle prematurely,” said Dr. Michael Giessel, dermatologist.

Pictures posted on twitter show a child as young as six doing “challenge”. Another post shows a young girl sucking so hard on a glass bottle that is shatters in to pieces.

“I was not aware of this. I have a daughter that is 16, and I hope she’s not doing that,” said Nicole Wright, a concerned parent.

Kylie Jenner tweeted in response to this challenge Wednesday saying “I’m not here to try and encourage people/young girls to look like me or to think this is the way they should look.”

Just as a reminder this is something that doctors warn people against. This challenge could cause serious injuries that require stitches to repair.

KSNT News did some digging to see if this trend was popular in the Topeka area. High school students maybe familiar with this challenge but local doctors say they have not had a case with any reports of teens going to the hospital for this.
