KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Washburn junior third baseman Kyle Carnahan has been named the MIAA Hitter of the Week after helping the Ichabods to a 4-1 week. Washburn opens the MIAA Tournament with a best two-of-three series in St. Joseph against Missouri Western on Thursday.
Carnahan led the Ichabods with a .647 average last week, helping the team go 4-1 in the final five games of the regular season. Carnahan had a team-high 11 hits, six RBI and two home runs, posting a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .667 on base percentage. Carnahan went 1-for-2 with a walk in a single game with Hays, followed by back-to-back-to-back 3-for-4 performances in the series with Nebraska-Kearney. Carnahan’s biggest hit of the series came in the bottom of the ninth of game three when he hit a walkoff two-run home run to clinch a 6-5 win over the Lopers. The 5-11 junior third baseman is native of Marshalltown, Iowa where he competed at Marshalltown High School.
