Hayden’s Tommy Hunter rolls to city tennis title

TOPEKA (KSNT) – Hayden junior Tommy Hunter dropped one set during Thursday’s city tennis tournament en route to the singles title. Hunter, the two-time defending Class 4A state singles champion, defeated Max Cassidy of Washburn Rural 8-1 in the city singles final at Kossover Tennis Center. Hunter received a first-round bye and beat Seaman’s Houston Chinn 8-0 in the semifinal match.

Washburn Rural claimed the team title with 30 total points. The Junior Blues were led by doubles champions Nathan Osborn and Kyle Beard. They defeated the Shawnee Heights duo Colby Slaughter and Alessandro Chiarrini 8-4 in the championship doubles match.

Seaman finished second as a team with 19 points, one point ahead of third place Topeka High.
