Shawnee Co Emergency Management Director offers surprise resignation

TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Director of the Shawnee County Emergency Management Office submitted his resignation Thursday, effective at the end of the day.

The resignation of 60 year old Dave Sterbenz came after the Shawnee County Commission went into executive session following Thursday morning’s scheduled regular meeting.

The county initially said is resignation would become effective June 30th, Sterbenz notified the media it would be effective by the end of the April 30th business day.

He’s served over two decades with the City of Topeka Fire Department and became Director of the Shawnee County Department of Emergency Management in November, 2007.

Sterbenz notified the media he would hold a 1 p.m. news conference to discuss his departure.
