TOPEKA (KSNT) – Topeka area U.S. Postal Service carriers were carrying more than just the mail Saturday, they were collecting food donations for the needy.
The 23rd annual “Stand Out Hunger Food Drive” takes place today as carriers collect food donations on their routes and at the main Topeka Post Office.
Last year Americans donated more than 72-million pounds of food – 600,000 pounds of it collected in Kansas – to help feed an estimated 30-million people.
The drive is timed to help local food banks which often run low on non-perishable foods during the spring.
To contribute just leave a donation by your mailbox before your scheduled delivery or stop by a collection bins at local Topeka post offices.
