TOPEKA (KSNT) – Spencer Massey currently owns the national speed record for going 332 miles an hour on the track in his Top Fuel dragster.
“I’ve ran 332 miles an hour a few times and I want to do it here in Topeka and I want to do it at Heartland Park Topeka,” Massey said.
Massey claimed a victory during last year’s NHRA Kansas Nationals at Heartland Park Topeka in the Top Fuel division and would love nothing more than a repeat title.
“We won last year and we know what it takes to win but at the same time we think we know what it takes to win at every race we go to but winning the Heartland Park Topeka race is always special in my eyes,” Massey said.
He grew up in Texas and his family would make the trip to Topeka for the races during Memorial Day weekend. Massey said it’s tradition to come to Heartland Park Topeka.
“It’s one of those races to where I was coming here as a kid,” Massey said. “I also used to live in Missouri and would have friends and family come from Missouri and root and cheer us on.”
Massey has 21 victories in his NHRA racing career, including 18 of those in the sport’s fastest machines (Top Fuel). He is currently ranked third in the NHRA Top Fuel points standings.
