The Topeka Shawnee County Sports Council recognized area athletes tonight with awards in 10 categories including outstanding male and female athlete in fall, winter and spring sports, most inspirational male and female athlete and most outstanding overall male and female athlete. To be considered, student-athletes must be a senior in high school, have a 3.0 cumulative GPA and have demonstrated excellence in sports during the 2014-2015 school year.

For the past 10 years, the Topeka Shawnee County Sports Council has also held a Hall of Fame induction recognizing past area athletes that made an impact on the Topeka community through their sport. The 2015 Hall of Fame inductees recognized tonight were Ken Darting, Bill McDonald and Sheri Norris.
The Topeka Shawnee County Sports Council advises and assists Visit Topeka Inc. in the marketing of Topeka and Shawnee County as a destination for athletic competition. The Topeka Shawnee County Sports Council works to enhance and stimulate positive economic growth through youth and adult sporting events by promoting and developing Topeka and Shawnee County as a sports venue.
