Kansas man drowns in above-ground pool

GREAT BEND, Kan. (AP) — A central Kansas man died after apparently hitting his head when he dove into an above-ground pool.

Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir says 36-year-old Ryan Fanshier, of rural Great Bend, died in the accident Wednesday night.

Bellendir said Fanshier was not breathing when he was pulled from the pool. Emergency responders attempted to revive him but he died later at Great Bend Regional Hospital.

The Great Bend Tribune reports the death is being considered accidental.

Bellendir said it appears Fanshier hit his head on the bottom of the pool, possibly causing head and neck injuries.
