TOPEKA – Nearly 2 years since the public saved family favorite Grover’s Smokehouse restaurant from closing, the Topeka business will shut the kitchen for good July 3rd.
The four-decade old restaurant was set to close in August of 2013, be renovated, and re-open as a new restaurant with a different menu. However, owner Mary Berger changed her mind and decided to keep it open as Grover’s after patrons showed an outpouring of support. At the time, business doubled, and Berger said the restaurant would maintain its name but still be renovated that fall. Berger noted then that Topeka customers showed they support “mom and pop” places.
However, 22 months after Grover’s customers saved the day, the marquee out front reads that the restaurant will be closing “forever” the day before the fourth.
