WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — The U.S. Marshals Service has captured an Oklahoma prison escapee in Kansas.
The agency said Friday in a news release that 32-year-old Charles Dean Brown and his girlfriend were arrested Thursday night at a Wichita house where they had been staying with family.
Brown escaped earlier that day from the Jackie Brannon Correctional Center in McAlester, Oklahoma, where he was serving time for possession of a firearm and unauthorized use of a vehicle. He had been spotted getting into his girlfriend’s vehicle, and Oklahoma authorities asked the U.S. Marshals to assist.
Authorities say Brown tried to escape from the house by breaking a window after he was found, and was arrested by the fugitive task force after “a brief confrontation.”
Both are awaiting extradition to Oklahoma to face charges.
