TOPEKA (KSNT) – Topeka police found a body in an SUV parked in a the north Topeka Dillons grocery store parking lot Monday night.
Police were first called to the Dillons parking lot at 800 NW 25th about 6:30 with a report that someone in the vehicle was either not breathing or dead.
Family members on Facebook posted that the vehicle, a dark blue Cadillac Escalade matched the description and license plate of a missing Robert Griffith, 54, of Manhattan, who had been reported missing on July 21, 2015. Several post by the family Griffith announced on Facebook Tuesday morning that they were informed the person in the car was Griffith (CLICK HERE) though KSNT News has not yet confirmed this with law enforcement. The Riley County Police Department says they have not yet positively identified the body at this time but the vehicle did belong to Griffith.
Topeka Officials have not yet determined a cause of death at the time of this release, however, police do not suspect the public to be in danger as a result. An autopsy has been ordered and detectives will conduct a follow-up investigation.
Topeka Police tell KSNT News the body could have been there “for several days.”
