SHAWNEE COUNTY (KSNT) – At Thursday’s Shawnee County Commission meeting, Commissioner Shelly Buhler briefed the other commissioners on her visit with US Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx.
Buhler met with Sec. Foxx on Wednesday.
The county asked the secretary to make funding for the decaying Willard Bridge a top priority.
In June, the county applied for a $16.5 million federal TIGER grant.
They need the money to repair or replace the old bridge.
“I basically stressed that we are ready to go…that we’ve done a great job of taking care of our bridges in Shawnee County, but, this has a huge price tag. We would need lots of different partners to get this project completed and we are ready and I stressed that a couple of times,” Shawnee County Commssioner Shelly Buhler said.
An announcement from the US Department of Transportation on the TIGER grant funding is expected in October.
