Police arrest over 200 ‘johns’ in prostitution crackdown

WASHINGTON (AP) — Police say they’ve now made more than 200 arrests as they try to curb an increase in street prostitution in downtown Washington.

District of Columbia police say nine men were arrested on Sunday and charged with solicitation of prostitution.

Police began cracking down on downtown prostitution in mid-July, and since then, 224 people have been arrested.

Officials have said many of the “johns” are visiting the district from other states.
