WAVERLY, Ohio (AP) — A man who allegedly stabbed his relative, raped a woman and then drove both victims from his home in Massachusetts to Ohio before authorities captured him following a chase has been jailed in Ohio, police said Monday.
The suspect, who wasn’t immediately identified, was jailed in Pike County following a Sunday morning standoff in Ohio in which he managed to steal a Pike County Sheriff’s deputy car, police in Boxborough, Massachusetts, said in a statement.
Messages seeking additional information from the Pike County sheriff’s office weren’t immediately returned Monday.
The crime spree began Thursday when police said the suspect stabbed his male relative several times at their Boxborough apartment. He then allegedly assaulted and raped a woman who was also in the home and forced both victims into a car and drove about 800 miles from Massachusetts to Ohio, police said.
The suspect managed to steal a sheriff’s deputy vehicle and led authorities on a short chase Sunday morning, police said. He was captured following the pursuit and a standoff and was jailed in the Ohio jail on theft and escape charges.
The spree remains under investigation in Massachusetts and Ohio.
Police said the stabbing victim was in serious but stable condition. The rape victim’s condition was unknown.
