CARBONDALE (KSNT) – One year can make all the difference. Santa Fe Trail went from a (1-8) record in 2013, all the way into the Class 4A DII semifinals last year and finished the season with a (9-3) overall record.
Head coach Jayson Duncan, entering his 6th season as the Chargers head coach, knew last year’s squad was special, but he sees no reason why this year’s team should be any different.
Santa Fe Trial will try to reload on both sides of the ball as they hope to build off last season’s success.
“We have the same type of kids,” said Duncan. “Kids who want to work hard. Kids that are committed, and kids that have a lot of confidence right now. And that’s kind of what happened last year. We got some confidence, and it started rolling. We felt like we could beat anybody, and then we proved it.”
“I don’t see why we can’t do just as good as we did last year,” said senior fullback/middle linebacker Trevor Boudeman. “Just a lot of hard work and it’ll get us back in the playoffs, and hopefully we can make a run again.”
“It’s the best experience that I’ve ever had in my life, and I love Friday nights,” said senior outside linebacker/wide receiver Cal Lyle. “It’s one thing from high school that I’m most definitely going to remember.”
Santa Fe Trail begins its 2015 season at Iola on September 4th.
