State releases report into car explosion on Oakland Expressway

TOPEKA (KSNT) — The Kansas Fire Marshal’s Office is recommending two felony charges in connection with July’s car explosion on the Oakland Expressway.

Jacob Schell, 37, and his son Roman, 4, were in a car on July 5 when it exploded.

KSNT News obtained a copy of the Fire Marshal’s report under the state’s open records act.

It reveals the office is looking at six charges stemming from the explosion, including aggravated battery and aggravated endangerment of a child.

The office has not named a person in connection with the charges.

The report has been sent to the Shawnee County District Attorney’s Office for review.
