Topeka HAZMAT crew on scene after vehicle accident causes fuel spill

TOPEKA (KSNT) — A traffic accident occurring at 6th and Gage just after the noon hour involved a passenger car and flatbed semi-truck.

The Topeka Police Department says one occupant was transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries.

Approximately 40 gallons of gasoline leaked into a storm sewer and nearby pond area.

The Topeka Fire Department HAZMAT crew responded and the Topeka and Shawnee County Emergency Management units, KDHE and City of Topeka departments were notified. City crews are still on scene to collect and secure the contaminated material.
