Stolen Grand Prix ditched after apparent joy ride

Rossville Police officers responded to the area and located the vehicle in the 13000 block of NW 62nd street.

MANHATTAN (KSNT) – A car theft suspect apparently took a stolen 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix out for a joy ride.

Tuesday morning shortly before 8:30, Riley County Police took a report of a stolen vehicle from 5005 Murray Road in Manhattan. Twenty-two-year-old Travis Belville says his car had been stolen sometime during the previous night.

The car valued at $2,500 was found abandoned in a ditch in the 5600 block of Skyway Drive. Grand Prixs have proven popular cars to steal in the Little Apple: a 1998 model was stolen in late July and a 2007 model was stolen in early June.

Meanwhile, a half hour after the stolen car report was made, police received a report of a stolen gun in the 4800 block of Skyway Drive. That’s the same street were the stolen car was ditched. RCPD officers found that a firearm had been taken from 58-year-old Christopher Browne’s vehicle. The Olsburg resident reported the weapon is worth approximately $1,200. That case, too, is under investigation.
