TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Topeka Fire Department initially responded to smoke in the area of 32nd and South Topeka Boulevard Friday morning.
Topeka Fire Department Engine Company 10 arrived in the area just before 1:30 a.m.. They began driving in the area and noticed smoke emitting from the Casa restaurant located at 3320 SW Topeka Boulevard. A full structure alarm was then dispatched at 1:38 a.m.
The Topeka Fire Department crews forced entry into the restaurant and found heavy smoke and flames inside. Fire crews performed a search of the restaurant and no occupants were found. The fire was extinguished and the smoke was ventilated.
A Topeka Fire Department Investigation’s Unit responded to the restaurant fire to determine the origin and cause for the fire.
Early investigation indicates the the cause of the fire was accidental. The origin of the fire was determined to be within the food buffet. The fire caused an estimated $250,000 worth of damage.
