School bus crashes into pond in Florida

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL (WFLA) – A Hillsborough County school bus crashed into a pond off Nine Eagles Drive and Kingsmill Place around 2:28 p.m. Thursday afternoon. The bus was carrying 27 students from Mary E. Bryant Elementary School.

All students and the bus driver have been accounted for, and there are no reported serious injuries.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said it’s unknown what caused the bus to run off the road. Deputies Greg Wehr, Steve Favors and Nancy Burkett jumped into the pond to rescue the children and driver, the sheriff’s office said.

A mechanic will examine the bus Friday. The driver hasn’t been cited and isn’t currently facing charges.
