EMPORIA (KSNT) – A 49-year-old man was arrested Thursday after reportedly threatening multiple people with a machete at an Emporia apartment building.
The Emporia Police Department says officers responded to the apartment building at 229 W. 13th, just down the street from Emporia State University after it was reported a person was chasing and threatening others with a machete in the parking lot. When officers arrived on the scene, three different people reported being threatened by the person with the machete and that the suspect allegedly told them he also had a gun.
Police say the suspect went into an apartment. The suspect was not barricaded or making threats to officers but no phone was available to call him. An attempt to contact the suspect by a P.A. System was unsuccessful. Officers ended up ramming the door to the apartment and were then able to communicate with the suspect who police say was cooperative and was then taken into custody.
Forty-nine year-old John Rodney Hill was confined in the Lyon County Jail with formal charges pending for aggravated assault and criminal damage to property.
