TOPEKA (KSNT) – On Thursday afternoon, the Topeka Stars Special Olympics softball team departed from Felker Park in Topeka to head to Wichita for this weekend’s ‘Special Olympics North American Softball Championship’.
The Stars are made up of 15 players, ranging in ages from 22-39. They have been practicing and playing in leagues throughout Topeka since April in preparation for this weekend’s tournament.
More than 450 athletes from 32 different traditional and unified sports teams will be competing in Wichita.
The opening ceremony will be held on Thursday night, and competition will run Friday-Sunday. The Stars are guaranteed eight games.
