Washburn Rural wins Centennial League tourney, Glynn tops individuals

TOPEKA (KSNT) – Lake Shawnee was the place as high school golf stars showcased their talent for the Centennial League Golf Tournament, but just how good are these girls?

Well Topeka High’s Rachel Stous showed her skills, chipping in an eagle on the 16th hole.

While normal folks would be happy with their day just from that shot, these girls say they could always be better.

“It started off pretty rocky and not the best,” said Stous, “I turned around on the backside and made a decent comeback.”

“There’s definitely things I can improve on,” said Abby Glynn, sophomore golfer for Washburn Rural. “But things are starting to come together for me.”

Right now is a good time for those things to come together because in two weeks, many of these girls are headed down to Wichita for their regionals. So you can bet in their last tournaments of the regular season, they’ll need to stay in shape and focused, if they’re ready to compete.

I think we’re starting to click as a team, so we’re coming together at the right time,” Glynn said. “I think we should be ready and have a good chance at winning.”

For the Washburn Rural golf team, they’ve won state two years in a row, so is there pressure?

“Yeah a little bit,” Glynn said. “We just need to play as well as each individual player can and go from there.”

We’ll see if the Junior Blues can pull a three-peat once October comes.
