The Emporia State Lady Hornets will begin the 2015-16 season ranked #1 in the nation in at least one national poll. They are joined by fellow MIAA member Ft. Hays State in the top five.

Emporia State returns four starters from last year’s 29-5 team that advanced to the NCAA Division II Final Four. First-team All-MIAA performer and MIAA Tournament MVP Kelly Moten and MIAA Freshman of the Year Addie Lackey will give the Lady Hornets one of the top back courts in the nation. They are joined by returners Kelsey Barnwell, Megan Holloway, Jacee Kramer and Kyrstie Miller. They will be joined by newcomers Maria Moylan and Brittany Kramer

Junior Kathryn Flott will be back for her third year of action in her fifth year at Emporia State. She averaged 9.9 points and 7.9 rebounds per game during the Lady Hornets post season run last year. Senior Sandy Ngoie and a trio of freshmen post players will look to replace All-American Merissa Quick in the post. Ngoie averaged 11.2 points and 5.0 rebounds per game over two years with George Mason and was ranked seventh in Patriots history with 131 made three-pointers. The three freshmen, all 6-2, are Tiana Moala, Shelby Baker and Tatum Graves.

Emporia State has been to 17 NCAA Tournaments, made the Regional Championship or “Sweet 16” 12 times, has made six trips to the Elite Eight, four to the Final Four, two national title game appearances and won the 2010 NCAA Division II National Championship. The Lady Hornets have won seven MIAA Regular season and seven Tournament Championships and are the only team to win four straight undisputed (untied regular season and tournament) MIAA Championships pulling the trick from 1998-2001. They have been in five straight MIAA Tournament Championships games, been to 12 of the last 18 MIAA Tournament Title Games.

The Lady Hornets will open the exhibition season on November 8 at the University of Kansas. The regular season opener will be on November 13 against Southwestern Oklahoma in Weatherford, Okla. Emporia State will make their 2015-16 White Auditorium debut on Tuesday, November 17 against Cameron.
