TOPEKA (KSNT) — On Wednesday, thousands of children across the country skipped the bus ride to school and walked there instead.
Kansas children were no exception, with many taking part in national Walk to School Day.
The goal of the event is to raise awareness for the need for walkable communities.
“I enjoy it a lot,” said Joseph Morales, a parent who participated in the event. “I love spending time with my daughter, and it kind of gives me an opportunity to be involved in what’s going on in her school.”
The annual event began in 1997.
