ST. MARYS (KSNT) – Two people were taken to the hospital following a motor vehicle accident Thursday morning.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reports a 1997 Ford Pickup was heading southbound on Maple Hill Road while a 2014 Dodge Truck was heading northbound. For an unknown reason, the Dodge was driving left of the center. The Ford Pickup went left of the center to avoid the Dodge Truck and, at the same time, the Dodge truck corrected and reentered the northbound lane of Maple Hill Road. The two vehicles struck head on in the northbound lane.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says the driver of the Ford Pickup, identified as 62-year-old John C. Rookstool of Wamego, was wearing a seat belt and was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.
The driver of the Dodge Truck was identified as 52-year-old Jeffrey Lee Freeman of Topeka. Freeman was not wearing a seat belt, according to KHP, and was taken to a local hospital in serious condition.
