EMPORIA (KSNT) – Police have now identified the man killed in an Emporia house fire last week as 67-year-old Ronald P. Roerig.

Emporia Fire and Police crews were called to a house at 1617 E. Wilmant Ct. on October 8th where a single occupant was in the home and perished in the fire.

Police say that due to the condition of the remains, it took some time to positively identify Roerig. He was the only person in the home at the time of the fire.

The Emporia Fire Department told KSNT News fire hydrants in the area were low in pressure, and that lack of water became an issue when trying to put out the fire.

Early investigation and autopsy show Roerig died from carbon monoxide poisoning and severe burns. Police say the exact circumstances and cause of the fire are still under investigation at this time but it is not believed to be criminal in nature.
