TOPEKA (KSNT) – One of the first privately-sponsored enhancements in Topeka’s downtown revitalization has been installed at the northwest corner of Kansas Ave. and 9th St.
The Sertoma Clubs of Topeka raised the funds for the purchase and installation of a 16-ft, 4-faced lighted clock at 9th and Kansas Ave. Electricity to the clock will be installed soon.
According to Sertoman Dan Hejtmanek, many communities have a time piece as a central focal point in their downtown, and “the Sertoma Clubs of Topeka wanted to provide a lasting legacy in Downtown Topeka for generations to enjoy”.
Hejtmanek said when the revitalization of Downtown Topeka is completed, our downtown will be “a showcase and a meeting place, and the Sertoma Clock will provide a photo opportunity for visitors with the beautiful State Capitol in the background”.
Sertoma is a 103 year old non-profit international service organization dedicated to providing “service to mankind” through various community service projects.
