MIAA releases preseason basketball coaches poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Northwest Missouri has been picked to win the MIAA by the league’s coaches in men’s basketball earning nine first place votes after claiming the regular season crown last season.

Things were close in second through fifth place as just nine points seperated the next four teams in the poll. Central Missouri earned one first place vote and are picked second just two points ahead of third place Nebraska-Kearney who earned one first place vote as well. Missouri Southern grabbed two first place votes but sit one points behind the Lopers for fourth place in the coaches opinion.

Pittsburg State, who earned the MIAA Tournament Championship are picked fifth this year and received the other first place vote. Next in the poll was Fort Hays State in sixth as they Tigers sit just ten points ahead of Lindenwood who is slated seventh by the coaches. Central Oklahoma is picked to finish eight this season just five points ahead of a tie for ninth between Washburn and Missouri Western.

Emporia State has been picked to finish 11th by the coaches with Southwest baptist picked in the 12th slot overall. Northeastern State is picked to finish 13th with Lincoln slated to finish 14th this year.

League play is slated to get underway on Dec. 2-3 from campus sites.
