Victim of fatal Hartford house fire identified

HARTFORD (KSNT) – The Lyon County Coroner’s Office released Tuesday night the identity of a man killed Sunday in a house fire.

The Coroner’s Office says 53-year old Mearl Edvin Whillock’s body was found when firefighters responded to the fire, but they’ve yet to determine what killed Whillock.

Firefighters were called to the fire at 209 W. Maple in Hartford about 9:30 Sunday morning. They were helped by the Neosho Rapids, Olpe and Emporia Fire Departments.

Lyon County Sheriff Jeffrey A. Cope says his office is working with the Kansas State Fire Marshall’s Office to determine the cause of the fire, which also is still under investigation.
