CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – It’s a fact. Americans just keep gaining weight. A report released Thursday shows more than one-third of adults are obese.
WWLP-TV registered dietician Nancy Dell told WWLP-TV it’s a major problem. She said, “It leads to more heart disease, higher health care costs, so it’s important to get it under control and it’s important for people to care about their own health.”
Many advertisements claim they can help you shed a lot of weight and fast. However, you need to be careful.
“When you see promises like lose 30 pounds in 30 days, if it looks to good to be true it probably is and probably not safe,” Dell said.
To get your body and health on the right track, you have to put in the work. Exercise plays an important role. Experts say jogging for just 30 minutes a day can burn about 300 calories.
Healthy eating is also important. Here are some quick tips:
- Eating vegetables helps you feel fuller longer.
- Drinking plenty of water will curb cravings, and help your digestive system.
- Don’t skip meals. That actually slows down your metabolism.
- And limit processed and fried foods as well as your sugar intake.
How much weight you should lose, is based on how much you weigh. Aiming to lose about 1% of your body weight a week is safe.
