TOPEKA (KSNT) – Firefighters responded to a house fire in Topeka early Friday morning.
Around 1 a.m., neighbors called in to report the fire in the 600 Block of SW Polk Street.
Fire crews arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the two-story building. The commercial building to the north sustained little or no damage from the fire.
Fire officials told KSNT News they contacted the homeowner and determined t it was a rental property. No one was living in the home at the time of the fire.
Officials are investigating the cause of the fire. According to a news release, preliminary investigation determines it was “more likely than not incendiary (intentionally set).”
The fire caused about $40,000 in damage.
